Graduate Student Resources

Grants, Awards + Prizes

The Department of Architecture sponsors a number of special awards, internship opportunities and travel fellowships throughout the year. These include, but are not limited to, travel opportunities to support thesis or dissertation research, participation in a conference (for PhD students only), and six-month internship opportunities to work abroad in an architectural firm. Awards and prizes are given at the end of each academic year in recognition of outstanding scholarship and promise. Most include a financial award.

There are eligibility requirements, application procedures and deadlines for each of these opportunities. Calls for proposals are issued throughout the year. Details about department-sponsored opportunities can be found on the Grants, Awards and Prizes listing. Other MIT opportunities may be found on the Office of the Dean of Graduate Education (ODGE) website, under Financial Aid

Architecture Student Council

The Architecture Student Council (ASC) is an elected body of student representatives who serve as the voice of the students in meetings of the Department of Architecture and act as liaisons between the students and the faculty and administration. The current ASC agenda can be found on the ASC website.

Graduate Student Council

The Graduate Student Council (GSC) exists to enhance the overall graduate experience at MIT by promoting the general welfare and concerns of the graduate student body, creating new programs and initiatives to provide opportunities for growth and interaction, and communicating with the MIT faculty and administration on behalf of graduate students. These goals are accomplished through a structure of elected representatives, standing committees and officers.

Office of the Dean of Graduate Education

The Office of the Dean of Graduate Education (ODGE) is an Institute-wide support and referral office for graduate students. The ODGE complements the individual departments' administration and advocates broadly for graduate education. The ODGE fosters academic excellence and quality of life for MIT's community of graduate students. At the ODGE website, students can find a list of alternative funding sources and explore grants for community activities, look up policies and procedures regarding graduate education, learn about advising and counseling resources, and more.

International Students Office

The International Students Office (ISO) serves all incoming and currently enrolled international students at the Institute. The ISO assists students in maintaining their legal status in the United States, provides support for their dependents, and promotes interaction with and integration into the MIT community at large.

Career Development Center

The MIT Career Development Center (CDC) supports student career preparation, helping students to develop the self-understanding, life experience and confidence to reach their goals. Students can turn to CDC for advice on how to manage their careers, investigate opportunities in their field and search successfully for jobs. Additional information is available under Career Advice.
