Master's Graduate Programs
The Department of Architecture has four master's degree programs
Master of Architecture (MArch)
MIT's MArch degree program is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board. An accredited degree is necessary for an architecture license in most states.
Master of Science in Architecture Studies (SMArchS)
The SMArchS degree is meant both for students who already have a professional degree in architecture and those interested in advanced non-professional graduate study. The degree may be pursued in one of five areas:
- Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture
- Architecture and Urbanism
- Building Technology
- Design and Computation
- History, Theory and Criticism of Architecture and Art
The SMBT program is run jointly by the Departments of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. It is meant for students who plan careers in this field.
Master of Science in Visual Studies (SMVisS)
The SMVisS program focuses on the development of critical and visionary positions of artistic practice in the context of an advanced technological and scientific community.
For more information, visit web pages for each individual program. Admitted students may also address questions to the administrator for master's degree programs.
